One evening, Taliya and her family crowded around the television to witness what Ima and Abba said was an historic event: the signing of the Camp David Accords. Taliya knew little about what was involved, nor anything, really, about the people who were doing the signing, nor where Camp David was, though she soon ascertained it was in America. It was a signing of a peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, and it all seemed to be a very big deal.
A great many people were in attendance of the event, and there were hundreds of photographers, and flashbulbs went off constantly, lighting the stage like lightning. Everyone sat very still and listened carefully, and when the signing was done, the men on the television all shook hands and smiled, and the flashbulbs went berserk once more.
Downstairs, people were singing and dancing in the street, and people were laying on their car horns, filling the whole city with a great cacophony of celebration. It was as frightening as it was thrilling, and Taliya hoped very much that the agreement the men on TV had made and the piece of paper they had signed would be honored always and forever.
