That weekend, the whole family came over for a big Shabbat gathering. All of Taliya’s aunts and uncles came, as well as her many cousins. Sabba and Savta came, too.
Ima prepared a magnificent meal.
The apartment was crowded and loud and full of many delicious aromas, and punctuated by a great deal of lively conversation.
That evening, after everyone went to bed, Taliya called “Lyla tov!” to Ima, Abba, Yair, and Yaron.
They each said “Lyla tov!” back to her.
A short while later, Taliya wondered if the door and windows were secure. She ventured from her bed and tiptoed across the cold floor, confirmed that everything was closed and locked, and then hurried back to her warm bed.
Taliya then set about the very serious task of saying Thank You to God for bringing everyone in the family together that afternoon for a truly special day. Some kids are interested in receiving toys or games, but Taliya believed that having the whole family together was the best gift, and she was truly, truly grateful for her family and for all of their blessings.
