Parker stood. He let the silky black drapery fall to the floor. He took a step closer to the Battle-suit.
There was no silly theme music, like in Skycade.
There was no tremendous and triumphant rock and roll symphony suggesting the good guys were about to get serious, the way there always was in Colby’s movies or SV show.
This was the real thing. And it was completely different.
There was no sound.
Yet, he felt an odd sensation. The Battle-suit possessed an undeniable presence.
Parker walked closer to the Battle-suit and stopped just outside the pool of light.
High above, on the back wall of the hangar, the giant eagle watched him in the darkness. He imagined General Ramsey standing behind the giant eagle, with his eye pressed to the other side, like an old painted portrait in an English study. He stared into the eagle’s eye. With his enhanced vision he could see the intricate bands of gold pigment surrounding the jet-black iris. General Ramsey was watching him. He could feel it.
He looked up toward the hangar door. He was almost certain he could open it. With the strength of the Battle-suit, he would be able to manually operate the door mechanism, sliding it on its track enough to slip through and out into the night. If the door wouldn’t open, he could force it open. He could punch and tear and wrench the steel enough to squeeze through. Doing so would not be a silent operation, however. It would set off the security system. Lights and sirens would flash and blare all over Candyland. Security personnel from all over the installation would respond with automatic weapons.
Like they had done in the video everyone watched that morning. The video of Go Boy Ultra demonstrating what it was capable of, demonstrating what Parker and the others were truly up against.
Parker took a deep breath and stepped into the heavenly light.
