That evening, Taliya arrived home in plenty of time for dinner. But dinner was soon delayed. Ima put a load of laundry into the washing machine and began complaining about a strange odor in the laundry room.
She immediately suspected that there was something behind the washing machine.
Taliya suspected it was a meatball.
When Abba arrived home, he and Ima set about moving the washing machine forward bit by bit, in order to reach whatever foul-smelling thing was behind it.
They discovered several large morsels of meat which were quite obviously meatballs.
Ima was not pleased.
She demanded to know how meatballs found their way behind the washing machine.
Taliya, Yair, and Yaron stood quietly.
“Tali, do you know anything about this?” Ima asked.
Taliya shook her head: no.
“Tali?” Ima asked.
Taliya nodded her head: yes.
“I told you, I don’t like meat!” Taliya declared.
A lively and somewhat loud discussion ensued.
Ima insisted Taliya needed to eat her meat in order to grow up big and strong.
Taliya insisted that she was already not eating meat and was already growing up big and strong. She further illustrated the fact that cows and horses and even elephants ate only grass and plants, and they were huge! Tali left out the part about those animals having multiple stomachs which allowed them to survive on grasses.
“I told you, I don’t want to eat meat!” said Taliya. “It’s going to continue. Save your money.”
Taliya was hopeful that appealing to Ima’s sense of frugality would aid her in her argument.
“Stop throwing meatballs behind the washing machine,” said Ima. She even pointed her finger sternly.
Taliya knew there were other options. Down the toilet, out the window, down the sink, into a potted plant. She therefore nodded in agreement.
It seemed, for the time being, the matter was closed.
Thankfully, Ima served delicious pasta for dinner that evening.
